Cross Stitch Designs
from:One of the most popular needlework crafts is cross stitch, and there are quite a few different types of stitches that can be used. Im going to cover a basic cross stitch pattern that one can start with as we are only starting and dont want to complicate things for now.
Firstly we need to look at what we need to start with cross stitching.
Firstly decide on a basic and easy pattern to use, a design that you can follow and that doesnt use too many different colors, etc.
Get your different color of embroidery floss that you would like to use; a lot of the designs show how many different colors you will need.
Buy your fabric and your embroidery frame to put your fabric in.
The correct needle for stitching.
You will first have to transfer your design onto fabric. Fold your fabric into halves to get the center so that your design will be placed perfectly. Now you can place your fabric into the embroidery frame.
First make a knot before making your first stitch otherwise you will pull through the floss. You will first start with your cross stitches that looks like a X and most of the time you will start in the center and work outwards.
To make the cross stitch you will start from the on side / and create the first part of the X.
If there are a few stitches in the same row you can continue with the first stitch / and after the last stitch you will now create the other side of the stitches \. Dont pull the embroidery floss to tight, its suppose to be neatly done and a loose tension.
I prefer working and finishing one color of floss before starting with my next color but it depends on how you want to work and what you are comfortable with.
Once you are finished with one row or color and you want to finish off you will pull the floss through to the wrong side (back), now thread your floss through some of the stitches at the back and cut the floss. This will make your work neat.
Cross stitching kits were a great invention for those who want to learn cross stitching. They make learning fun and easy because they provide all the supplies you need in a single kit so you can focus on learning.
After youve made your first kit project, you will find that you really do know how to cross stitch because there isnt much to this craft to begin with. What makes a stitching project more or less complicated is its size and some of the embellishments you can add to any project to enhance it.
There are two kinds of kits you should know about. Stamped cross stitch kits and counted cross stitch kits. The difference between these two is that in one the pattern is actually stamped or printed on the fabric, kind of like a coloring page.
Counted cross stitch requires that you read a pattern and then stitch it on the fabric. Typically stamped cross stitch is for beginners and is part of a kit. It makes it easier to focus on learning the handful of easy embroidery stitches that are considered cross stitching.
The only additional skill you need to make counted kits is to be able to count and read a chart or pattern. Either kind of kit will teach you cross stitching.
The supplies in these kits include aida fabric, a needle, the DMC or embroidery floss for the design and sometimes a hoop as well as a design and instructions.
The patterns in these kits are typically very simple designs, though some are quite elaborate. Two very good brands for cross stitching kits are made by Bucilla and Janlynn. They both make all kinds of embroidery, needlepoint and cross stitch project kits.
If you have ever played tic tac toe then you already know how to make the main stitch used in cross stitch because it is just like drawing the x. You take your needle up from a top corner in the grid fabric called aida cloth, and take the needle down on the opposite corner of that same grid, just like the diagonal line you make when you are playing tic tac toe.
Then you bring your needle back up on the other top corner and diagonally back down at the other bottom corner of the grid to make the x. Its that simple.
Other than that you should know NOT to tie a knot in your cross stitch floss before you start stitching. Instead, leave a bit of a tail and old it so that as you make other stitches you kind of sew over it.
When you get to the end of your thread or need to change colors, just run your needle under some of the other stitches already there on the back. Thats sufficient for cross stitch to keep the end from coming undone.
You may find that placing your fabric in a embroidery hoop or frame will help hold it taught for you and make it easier to hold while you stitch.
When you are done you can frame it and hang it up or include it in some other larger project like a pillow, hand towels, bib or bookmaker.
These cross stitching kits make great gifts for wedding showers or baby showers too! Look for Disney designs or wedding themed kits.
Each one of us has our own hobby that we normally do during our pastime. Some of us may prefer to play online games on our computer. Some prefer to play sports, read a book, cook, but others have this passion in doing cross stitch.
Cross stitch is one of the most wanted hobbies that most people prefer to do especially women. Other people even make money out of this hobby. This is actually the counter part of painting that you also put into frames and display it on your wall.
If with painting you need a brush and paint, in this you need to have a needle and thread. You will sew the pattern you have chosen. There are a lot of different kinds of patterns that you can buy at the market which may be found in different figures and images.
But do you have any idea how to choose the right cross stitch pattern? Here are some of the tips that I could give you.
Right pattern:
First, you need to know what kind of image or pattern that you want to stitch. To make things easier, try to focus on your likes. If you are a religious person, then there are religious patterns that you can choose from. If you love flowers then try to find flower patterns.
This is what you can do so you will be able to choose the pattern that you want, go to the nearest stitch stores and ask the person in charge to show you all the patterns they have, which for sure they have, then from those copies, you could choose the cross stitch pattern that you want.
Size: Patterns are available in different sizes. There are sizes for beginners and for those who are already experts. So, try to level yourself so you would know if you are capable of doing those complex types of cross stitch patterns.
Colors: This is also very important that you need to understand if you are into cross stitching. If you are only starting to do stitching, just focus on the patterns that only require few colors so it would be simpler and easier. Then, try to assess yourself if you could do those patterns that require a lot of colors.
